Thursday we accepted a ride in with Pam and Rob. Such a great sailing couple. Fred and Rod spent time doing stuff on their computers while Pam and I went for a lovely walk through town. It lent a perfect time to get to know each other. Georgetown is buzzing with excitement as they ready for their biggest event of the year, The Family Regatta. We see sloops and masts coming in by truck for the races. They are transforming the harbor into a town itself in one week as buildings and grand stands are flying up and being painted with the typical pastels common in the islands. It is pretty, even before it is complete. The sound of hammering and locals happily “yelling” with each other as they waste no time in anticipation of this weeks celebrations. Just being surrounded by this is enough to get me excited. It is contagious. The shops are packed full local gift items, ready for the huge crowd. I am holding off. There is one thing I have had my eye on the last time we were here in January, but I am waiting to see if they have it at one of the booths. It’s a serving bowl and spoon made out of a conch shell. I know, I don’t need it and I still may not get it, but I do love it! This is the only place I saw it through the islands. I bought my second shirt on the trip, an official “2012 Family Regatta Shirt”. I had to, as it is my first live race I have ever attended in my life. Yep...another first. All my t-shirts are a mess anyway. Sailing does take it’s toll on clothing. I am glad I went to the good will store to get most of my sailing clothes before I left. Good finds are located at the good will store, take my word for it. We did our grocery shopping for the week like green tomatoes, a few pieces of meat and fresh veggies. Dinner last night was a treat for both of us. Liver & onions fried in bacon grease. Time for the rotor rooter of the arteries. That should about do it for the year. Not a crumb was left! The sunset was beautiful. The harbor is beginning to fill up with sailboats and what a sight to see. My heart jumps when I glance across that huge sea of masts. I am so fortunate to be on a boat that supports one of those beauty’s. Just a taste of what is to come this coming week. Sloops with full sails. Wow! What a rush!
