Raining, wind blowing and it looks like we are socked in for the day. The weather window may have changed. Although Wednesday looks the best, we are going to get ready today doing last minute preps just in case. If it does reopen tomorrow, we want to be ready. That included getting the 10 hour check up on the new outboard in order for the warranty to be valid. Groceries, more diesel in the jugs and a few things from Exuma Market was just about all we needed to do onshore. While waiting for the engine to go through it’s 10 hour checkup, we went to Peace and Plenty for a wonderful lunch. I had the usual giant hamburger and Fred the Conch burger. It stopped raining just long enough to barely get back to Casa Mare, a little wet and cold. I lit a candle, you can’t imagine how a little candle can heat up a cabin on a boat, put the coffee on and got out of those wet clothes. Now it looks like a laundry mat with clothes hanging out to dry, inside. Fred wanted to move back to Hamburger Beach today as soon as it stopped raining but it didn’t and we stayed put. Tomorrow we will make one more run into town to pick up a prescription I am running out of and top our water off before we head on over near the Monument. Then we wait. The rest is oil and belt check ups on Casa Mare’, baton down the hatches and be ready. The harbor was very quiet this morning. One would think the town deserted except Exuma Market, which we managed to get to before they closed at 11:00 this morning. I have never seen this town this quiet. In fact I think Peace and Plenty was the only place open to eat and that is most likely because it is a resort. There was a fellow sitting on the wall selling homemade bread and we bought a loaf. He only had a few things left so hopefully he made it home before the rain started again. I imagine people are sleeping in after playing so hard yesterday a good day for that with the weather as it is. Fred slept most of the afternoon and I just did things around the boat and tried to catch up and sort through my pictures and read. I couldn’t get on the Internet to sort through the ones on there. We cooked the wings tonight and ate them as we watched a movie, Dark Tide. Now that’s a great movie to watch while at sea. Sheesh. What was I thinking? Oh, one more thing, Kidd’s Cove, where we are anchored was not named after a pirate as I was first told. It is named after Captain Kidd, a U. S. Naval officer who visited this cove during the pirate era. I saw a very rare bird here today, a Ringed Neck Dove. In fact, a pair of them, right at the base of the dinghy dock in Georgetown. They come from Africa, and were in transit to the US and were turned back because they had no certification that they were disease free. During the trip back to Africa, the vessel they were on ran out of bird food so they set the birds free through the islands. It was a wonderful treat to see them especially since they are not native and rare to this island. I wish I had my camera but it was raining and I left it behind.
To sum up today, it was quiet time to spend with God, knowing even this rain is a precious gift. I listened to him speak to me through the winds and felt his presence with every movement on his seas. I pray he will give us safe passage through the islands towards home. I put all my trust in him.
