May 2, 2012 Black Point

Wednesday May 2, 2012

Up at seven, anchor aweigh by 8:00 am.  The trip started right on schedule, heading out sea.  They were calling for 3-4 foot seas but Fred said he was sure they were at least 6-7 feet.  I agree.  The sail was fantastic.  It was beautiful coming up towards Little Farmers Cay and we were making such good time averaging 6.8 knots, we bypassed Farmers and went straight to Black Point which was close to 60 miles.  That’s the laundry stop, best laundry mat in the Bahamas., hands down.  They even have hot water there.  Even though I took a stugeron pill and had a patch on but while going on deck to secure the fuel jugs, that was just enough for me.  I ate some soda crackers and laid down for awhile with Stasia in the V-berth.  I heard Fred come down to put Jimmy Buffet on Sirus and the sails started thrashing above.  We jibed.  Stasia levitated and decided to hide under the v-berth next to the air conditioner, her favorite hide out when she is angry with Fred when he puts us under sail.  She did goo today though.  She usually goes up to the cockpit and pukes between his feet.  Not today though...good kitty!  I knew things were okay when I looked through the companion way and Fred at the helm, calm as a cuke.  He said something happened to the auto pilot and we ended up going in a 360.  After I came topside, he said my turn and went below to take a nap.  Man oh man...the auto pilot just went out and he wants me to sail this thing while he sleeps?  I am here to tell you that I didn’t leave the helm once, except to reel in my seaweed I caught.  We followed the islands on our starboard side, even passing Oprah’s island and yes, it’s a big one.  Although we planned this return trip to be places we missed going out, we were here at Black Point before.  I love this place.  It won’t be an overnight though.  We are doing Laundry tomorrow, a much needed task.  Probably have lunch at Loraine's Café, one of our favs. and walk this very small lovely town.  We are then moving on to Stanley Cay so Fred can get his Conch burger.  He says they have the best Conch Burgers in the Islands and looks forward to that!  The chuck roast is in the pressure cooker with potatoes, onions and carrots.  The sunset was fantastic!  I asked Fred to find a spot where we had a clear view of the sunset with no boats between us.  When we got here he had me at the helm, finding a spot and setting anchor.  He did the snubber detail.  We discussed tomorrow after I ordered some raisin and coconut bread from Lorraine’s Mom and I think we just may do laundry in the morning and then have lunch at Lorraine’s and head on out to Staniel Cay instead of wait.  It’s only about 5 miles fro here so it should be easy to work in.  That would put us a day ahead of ourselves.  I hesitate to say that because just when I do, things change, but that’s the intention we have any way. It has been a great day, great winds, great sailing, great dinner and great sunset.  What more could anyone ask for on a boat?  God is good!
