February 1, 2012 Rum Cay

Laaaaaazy day!  Seems like I have been having a lot of them lately.  We spent most of the day at the Out of The Blue clubhouse.  I was hoping to catch up on my pictures and post them on the internet but all I really got done was a lot of socializing with fellow boaters.  The computer was on most of the day but it was more fun talking!  I did get to talk to my dear friend Marion and that was a real treat.  She is the greatest friend.  It sure would be nice if she could join us.  In a pinch we could sleep 6 more people but that would be a real pinch.  The wind is still blowing hard, swell are big and plenty and now I know to plan on sitting tight until it runs out of blow.  Fred is topside reattaching the bridle to the chain to see if that helps.  This is what they call the “Big Blow”  No rain though.  Between the wind and swells there is no way I am going to go topside and clean the decks off, which I am waiting to do.  It gets all crusty with sea salt and by the end of the day, it’s in my sheets.  I have learned that I don’t need a clean set of clothes to put on everyday.  Acceptance is great and I love the slide into becoming a true admiral at sea.  This is actually fun!  Besides, as soon as I get a shower and go topside, the clean clothes are no different than the ones I just took off.  We were hoping to see the caves the Lucayan drew pictures in but Rasta said it was too dangerous.  It is not possible to get there by land and the seas are too rough now and would most likely put our dink on land at the first big swell.  I passed.  I will look at the pictures online.  Snorkeling is rough here now too.  Ronnie went diving under his boat yesterday and met up with a huge barracuda.  Not much down there.  Last night a huge ray swam under the boat and decided to stay there for the night.  Sunday, it has been decided is the day we leave.  That means to me, Saturday is wash day.  A fishing boat came in and my brother Jim said to go to the cleaning station and I would see 6 nurse sharks.  I did and they were not there.  Probably because they were not cleaning fish.  They caught one Mahi Mahi and were not going to filet it here.  I’ll have my chance, I am sure.  The mail boat comes in tomorrow so we are looking forward to getting fresh veggies.  We are pretty set on provisions.  I hear Puerto Rico has a military base there so if possible, we’ll check it out.  I think things will be a bit cheaper at the commissary and PX.  Maybe we will find a single side band receiver and a few bread pans there but that is not anytime soon.  We are quite a ways from Puerto Rico.  Does anyone know if you have to pay duty on anything sent to Puerto Rico?  If so, let me know.  A bit of homework I didn’t do but at that time, I didn’t know there was still a base there.  Maybe there isn’t.
Time for dinner, spaghetti.  Yummie!
