Happy Birthday to me! I forgot it was my birthday until about 11:00 am when Fred remembered and wished me a Happy Birthday. We decided to spend the day on the island. We went to the clinic which was open and Fred still has an inner ear infection. They gave him some meds and then I had her look at my knee, just in case since it was draining something. Sure enough, the bottom of the would was infected, just what I was hoping not to happen. She said the rest of the would was healing nicely. I suspected a bit of infection since the bottom area was warmer than the rest of my knee. They gave me Cipro and I hope this will work on it. I am so glad I had it checked, knowing the next few islands we are near or passing .are pretty unpopulated. Now that we are both going to be drugged with antibiotic, we should be good to go! We then went to Ocean view restaurant to have lunch. There were 3 people in there watching a soap opera and said we needed to call 1 hour early to eat there, breakfast, lunch and dinner. We then tried Kay’s bar and grill. The door was locked so we went to the last stop store and bought a few cokes and a pack of gingersnaps then headed back to the dink, so we could get to the marina and use the computers. I was hoping they had food there. They didn’t. No one was there and I now know they are serious about getting what you want and leaving the money on the counter. It was a help yourself bar. We drank our cokes we bought at the store and ate the gingersnaps to hold us off until we got back to the boat. It was good to get on the internet although I didn’t want to take the time to surf and check on a few things on my search list. I did get to talk to my Mom on Skype, thanks to my good friend Barbara Holderfield who called them for me. I owe you one Barb! Thank you! I plan to get back on tomorrow.
We stopped by s/v “EOS” to say hi to Ronnie and Monica. I think we are going to rent a gold cart, seats 4, and take a look around the island. Ronnie and Fred talked weather and chart destinations. Monica and talked food and recipes as well as the local people. This is not the same place my brother Jim came to with Linda and Jennifer. There are a few boats anchored out and one in the marina. These people are so nice but I feel like they have a lost look in their eye, like their hopes have been stripped from them. There is not a place on this island that is not in need of repair. Money is so scarce here. The marina was almost destroyed, the marina club house still stands but most of the slips are damaged. The area across from the clubhouse had filled in leaving a very narrow passage area to get in by boat. It’s almost like they don’t care although they all say someday it will be repaired better than before. I wonder if that “someday” ever will happen. I wish I could help them. I send out a prayer request for the one and only local community here on Rum Cay, Port Nielson. This is truly an island in need.
This was a wonderful Birthday, doing absolutely nothing except what I wanted to do. Tonight Fred made me dinner, 2 lobster Tails, mashed potatoes and I made a tomato salad with mozzarella cheese, fresh basil, onions, olive oil and balsamic vinegar. Dessert was Chex Mix Mom and Dad made and gave me before I left. I decided to wait until my birthday to open it. Glad I did. Thanks for the Christmas/Birthday cookware Mom and Dad! I have used it a few times and it is waiting my arrival to make some really good Island recipes in them. I love you both!
Time to hit the hay. I am tired. Oh yeah, I did do the dishes tonight and Fred dried! Teamwork around here most of the time! It’s going to be another rolling night on Casa Mare’ Lots of swells in this anchorage and a blow is almost here, probably is from the sound of the wind topside. Still pretty warm out there though.
