February 21, 2012 Luperon

Tuesday February 21, 2012

Started the day off bad.  We were going to meet Evlynne at the dinghy dock at 8:30and she was going to show us all the hot spots in town to get things we needed.  I sure did get up early enough and checked my mail on the computer and realized I had over an hour before I had to leave.  I just ‘assumed’ I looked at the clock wrong and later Fred said it was 9:00.  I forgot to reset my computer so I was really late.  We went on in and looked for her and ended up at Steve’s for coffee and a bite to eat.  She found us!  It seems Captain Steve’s is the place to go, open air, a thatched roof and no walls.  Very big and comfortable.  Nothing really to say about today, cows wandering the streets, wash on barbed wire fences and locals hanging around having intense conversations with each other.  Tonight was another movie at Wendy’s.  Bruce Van Sant came over and kissed my hand, gave me a hug and was happy to see us!  He didn’t stay for the movie but we did.  The sound was messed up so we left too and came back to the boat.  Fred has been busy ordering things for the boat since our friend Rod is coming in a few weeks.  He can bring stuff with him so we don’t need to pay customs.  Works for us.  We are excited about Rod coming.  I, the match maker, have already lined up a lady to show him around.  She is a boater also.  I know he will have a great time here.  Now that we have someone coming here to visit us, I can’t think of anything I need.  I have adjusted my lifestyle and doing quite well on what I have.  Fred did order a battery for my computer though, mine won’t last more than an hour unplugged.    I do think I am going to start making my own bread though unless I find a bakery that makes good fresh bread.  The wheat bread here from the factory vendors is yuckie!  Steve let us in on a little secret also.  When we need veggies, buy them straight off the truck that drives around instead of the little shops.  He said it is fresher and what ever the price is, they will come down about 1/3.  We need to practice that!  We are busy eating our own stuff on the boat now or eating out because it is so cheap and the helpings ate huge.  I always have Fred help me finish mine and he gladly accepts.  Still haven’t finished cleaning the boat.  The difference is, the water we are on is nasty.  It’s not like at the islands we have been to.  This harbor needs restrictions I think but, maybe that is why it is 50.00 a month to grab a mooring ball.  They say it takes your anchor a few days to set here if you don’t want a mooring ball.  I use hand sanitizer all the time when I have to touch the painter (line) on the dinghy.  I don’t want to get sick.  I still love this place though.  The children will steal your heart.  I wish I could just spend one day on the back roads and take pictures.  These children are beautiful.
