This morning we missed the net. Must have slept through the announcement, which is usually our alarm clock because we keep the radio on all night, just in case, for safety’s sake. Last night we heard someone cry for help. The first time I was not sure if I heard it right because there is a lot of celebrating going on so I cautiously dismissed it. Then I heard it again. Fred grabbed the spot light and we went on deck searching in the direction it was coming from. It’s a scary feeling to think someone may be out there needing help when most people are asleep. Eventually we saw a dink being rowed to another boat. They were laughing at the sight of a spot light so we turned it off, and just wrote it off as a few guys having a lot of fun, in the dark trying to get back to their boat...rowing. I say always respond to “help” and never assume they don’t really mean it. Just a week ago, a guy was swimming at volleyball beach where many people swim. He was rushed to the clinic and flown to Nassau because a dinghy ran over him, not seeing him in the water. He was hurt pretty bad, single handing the catamaran and it is still out there. Keep him in your prayers. We called Minn’s again this morning and he said the ferry had not arrived yet. Pam and Rob from s/v Moon Shadow took us in again. This time we went straight to the government dock and asked. There were two boats unloading. The second boat said, “Yes, we have two boxes, Yamaha, right?” “Right”! He walked on the back on the boat ramp and gave us the ‘hold on one minute’ signal. Although it was not the boat it was to come in on, there were two Yamaha’s on this one. I walked onto the back of the boat myself and there it was…”Yamaha Minn’s Water Sports”. They guy actually had the worker with the forklift put what he was carrying down and had him move the two motors off the deck of the boat onto the dock. We were both excited! Fred got right on the radio and called Minn’s and said, “The outboard is here at the government dock. When can you put it on the dinghy?” No time was wasted. Pam and Rob took us back to Casa Mare and towed us back in the motorless dink to Minn’s where we left it while we had lunch. By the time we got back, it was on the dink and at the dock, waiting to be taken to her new home. I never thought an outboard could look so good but I am here to tell you that was a beauty on the back of our little dinghy! I will never look at another engine the same way again! I have learned to really appreciate how important something like that is, especially when you lost one. I will ALWAYS offer someone rides who loses theirs. This is definitely a gift to pass on to the next one who is in need. We really appreciate all the help the boaters have offered us getting back and forth without a way ourselves. Boating people are awesome! Now it feels like we have our family back all in tack. The races start tomorrow and last 4 days. You can feel the energy here in Georgetown, and we will probably move from place to place, depending where they set the course which depends on the wind. Although we will be pulling anchor, we are still staying here for the race, just dropping anchor so we can watch from a better vantage point.
The wind has been fierce this afternoon. As we were taking a Regatta schedule we picked up to Pam and Rob, I got soaked. I guess you could say the motor and I got christened. As we were passing Impulse III from Oriental he gave me the hands out looking in the sky signal meaning…”where did this come from?” I wondered the same thing. I am getting better at not falling in the unexpected sways of the boat as well as the expected. I do most of my falling now on land. “Sea Leg adjustments”. One of these days my brain will figure it all out...the difference in land and sea. I probably won’t be able to sleep in my own bed once I get home. I’ll miss the sea cradle.
Tonight it is meatloaf, green beans and baked potato. One of my favorite comfort meals to celebrate our new Yami! Chuck and Barbara from s/v Barbara Ann went to Minn’s after we told them there were two on the boat being delivered to Minn’s. He was right on top of that one and we have challenged them in a dinghy race once they get theirs mounted. Twin engines with the same birthday! This should be fun! Of course this race will not be near populated areas.
