I had a hard time getting up this morning and I keep forgetting, it’s okay. We watched the first Class C race and it was so hazy Fred wanted to move to the other side where things were happening. I called Mom but the connection was poor so we pulled anchor and moved back to Kidd’s cove area in time for the Class B race. It was really excited. One of the sloops nearly hit the boat behind us. The guy in the sloop moved inside towards the boat. I am sure he thought they were going to collide. I did get pictures of it. They were really close to us, coming in front and behind us. Although it was misty, I got some nice close ups and hyped up for the Class A race.
Fred and I went into town to get water and fuel and some fresh veggies from the veggie truck. We ran into Pam and Rod from Moon Shadow and decided to have some ice cream at Bikini Bottoms and visit with them. They were waiting for Pam’s friend who was flying in today for a week’s stay. Tomorrow, since we are anchored in such a choice spot, they asked if they could come to Casa Mare’ and watch Class B & A from here, weather permitting. They are calling for rain, but the race goes on, rain or shine. On our way back, we got soaked and I was again glad I didn’t shower before we went in.
That Class A race was fantastic. We had boats right off our stern, waving and smiling as they went by. Some looked nervous because they were so close but you could almost see the hair in their nostrils! It was heart stopping to be so close we could almost shake hands as they slid through the blue water passing us like a train missing the station in a small town. My camera stopped working just before the last boat passed. I am still working on the problem but not worried, I have more than enough pictures. I already have chicken wings marinating, celery, onions and radishes ready to dip and pickled beets soaking up those yummie juices, all just waiting for the grill to fire up and snack for the races. Fred took a long nap and I stayed busy, too excited to relax after such a wonderful day. I cooked beet greens sautéed in olive oil and butter with fresh ginger, garlic, onions and a bit of sugar. I had some potatoes I needed to cook. It was a quick lesson when we bought the bagged potatoes. They go bad quickly. It wasn’t the deal we thought it was and we will be going back to hand picking our own out of the potato bin.
The wind is howling outside like a snow blizzard but warm and cloudy. I should get a great rock to sleep tonight. Fred just walked up to me and put his new teeth in front of my face and asked for a kiss. He is not right but he sure makes me laugh! Movie time!
I just want to say that today during the race, I realized, if we wait for God to show us things never before seen, it’s so worth the wait. It was amazing to witness the winds to carry those boats across our stern as smooth and quick as the breath of God. God just takes my breath away, if only for a brief moment, reminding me his presence is always there! Sometimes I need that reminder. It was an incredible feeling.
