February 2, 2012 Rum Cay

Thursday February 2, 2012

We moved, don’t have a new address but we have moved.  Last night was a sleepless night for both of us and I think the coconuts rolling around was his last straw.  The challenge was...can we get into the marina.  Hurricane Irene created a brand new beach nearly denying access for larger boats.  It has to be on high tide to get in here with Casa Mare’ because we draw feet.  I stayed on the boat, taking care of stuff while Fred dinked it to the marina looking for Rasta (the manager or something there) but he was not there.  Finally after trying to hail him on the radio, I heard him say if there is anyone on this island who knows where Rasta is, tell him Casa Mare’ is looking for him.  Must have worked because he finally showed up.  He showed Fred where to put the boat, in a little bay like area and Fred came back and said we are moving.  The bottom is full of coral heads and I was at the bow making sure he didn't head straight over one.  It was rather windy and hard to see the bottom but coral heads have their own ID system.  In all this beautiful water, Coral Heads are dark, nearly black sometimes right under the surface.  Turns out, when we came through the “shallow slot” we had 9 feet but it was awfully narrow.  We came straight in and a sense of relief went through my body.   I am glad we came to the marina.  It’s only $1.00 a foot to stay here and we could get some sleep.  I was worried that we would be tired for our upcoming overnight trip.  This slip is like we are on land.  Still, calm, quiet and very protected from the elements except for a few mosquitoes.  Stasia still has not noticed there is a dock next to us yet.  Earlier there was a dog wanting to play with her but she was busy looking out the port side of the boat.  The dog left.  Then Fred showed up with friend for Stasia to play with, a hermit crab.  It was hilarious.  We let the crab amuse her for a bit then Fred took it back where he found it.  I got most of the boat cleaned, and organized back to how it should be.  I was hoping to do some wash today but Rasta said I needed to wait until he got back from pouring concrete which would be 6:00 this evening.   Then at 6 he told Fred I would need to wait until tomorrow morning.  He also has to make RO water.  No problem except, the guys decided we should have left today.  We are not prepared now.  We need fuel and water ourselves but now the guys are taking Saturday.  Heck, just tell me when to put a sea sick patch on and I am good to go.  Rest is in order tonight, tomorrow will be a busy day, probably only get 2 loads done tomorrow because of their water situation.  It’s good to be able to walk in a straight line in the cabin without holding on.  Sea swells and wind can be rather unsettling!
