Here I am telling everyone to have a great weekend and it is only Tuesday! Someone here said to me “Have a long beautiful day” and I liked that! I may borrow that for awhile. At least it will keep my days straight!
We had a plan today, sort of. The first thing we did was empty the water jugs. I noticed there was a bronish residue in the bottoms of them yesterday so I put about a cup of bleach in each one and we filled them up with fresh water and let them sit in the dinghy overnight to clean them out. Now I realize how important it is to have a water filter on the boat. In Luperon, I was advised not to use any ice unless it had holes in the cubes. I guess that is the difference in pure water and not pure water, I am not sure, but I followed the advice just in case. We went to Lake Victoria and refilled the clean jugs and emptied them, packed them in the dink again and went to St Francis resort to get Internet time. They didn’t have the tickets yet so Fred took me on a wonderful tour of the anchorages on Stocking Island, Hole numbers one, two and three. Hole number three has a blue hole in it but we are not sure where it is. Recently some guy went diving into it but didn’t make it. Sad story but a reminder as to how strong the seas are and they always get their way, always to be respected. He took me to Hamburger Beach where the Monument is and we had a wonderful lunch. It was picture perfect, like from a magazine. We got there early enough so I got some great pictures of the structures there. Again, colors of a pastel pallet. You can’t help but be happy around all this color! Funky and fun! We decided to go back and do our errands in town and get the boat and move her to Hamburger beach. Based on the winds coming up, this should be a good spot tomorrow to watch the first race, if the wind doesn’t change. We are not placing any bets on that though. You all know who is in control of that, not to be tinkered around with. Town was fun. As we took the second load of water jugs in to be filled the funniest thing happened. A little boy, about 8 or 9 years old was driving this boat all over the lake. He wasn’t much taller than the console. I had to get a shot of it and he was doing everything you could imagine, wheelies, if there is such a thing, backing up, going forward, bringing it to the dock, and a mighty fine job at that too might add. He had quite the audience from the water dinghy dock. He was all over the place. I was expecting him to run into something, may even another boat but he didn’t. All of the sudden this guy came out to the dock with a bag and started shouting at this little fella. “Uh Oh” I thought. By then he had the boat going at nearly a dead stop speed and his father or who ever the man was blessing him out big time. I had to laugh. A kid having the time of his life and even if he was in trouble, he looked like he didn’t care, it was worth it. Then the guy let the little boy drive the boat for about a minute and took over as they disappeared under the bridge into Kidd’s Cove. It was quite a show. Off to town for a walk, we picked up a bunch of green bananas and some onions from the veggie truck as well as Fresh bread from the Town Café. Yep, I am hooked on their bread! Top to Bottom to get a new cable for the dink was next. That broke yesterday. I am so glad it broke when Fred was in the dink rather than lock it up at some dock and come loose. That was a blessing in disguise! They had quite a time getting the thing cut because their cable cutter broke. I think Fred’s next plan of attack was a hacksaw. Onto the Government dock to see just what progress they did since we were there last and wow, the place was hopping. They were asking me to take their picture with “my” camera. What a happy town! I stopped at Liquor is Quicker and picked my “First Coconut Water on the house” as promised by Terry. I had to tell him no alcohol though, Virgin please. Since it was pre-mixed he went to the truck and pulled out 5 gallons of coconut milk (which I saw was $100.00 at one place for 5 gallons) and made Fred and I a “Coconut Water, Virgin”. Of course he had to pose for a picture also. I promised I would be back and it was delish by the way. You can’t help but love these people. Always smiling. I can’t wait to see them “Rake and Scrape”, an island dance that is popular here. I bet these people can whoop it up on the dance floor with the music blasting all over the place. We can hear it on the boat at night until about 10 or 11:00 but it is a fun background music when from a distance. Makes me want to dance either close or far away. We both catch each other moving to the rhythm and smile at each other. Oh...to be young again! I decided to go ahead and get the conch bowl I have had my eye on for the past 4 months. I am thrilled with it! I also decided to take my trumpet shell and make a horn out of it. They sound really pretty made out of the Trumpet shell. We packed up and pulled anchor moving onto Hamburger Beach (Monument as they call it). It is pretty here. We had to drop our anchor twice. The first time we were too close to another boat. The second time I tore open my almost healed knee on the winch, bleeding all over the deck. That about put a plug in one of our options of Conception Cay for snorkeling on our way back home. Speaking of home, we are looking for a window from Monday on. No definite plans yet which route we will take, but it will definitely be closer to Wilmington, NC which is our final destination. I am not going to get too bummed out about my knee, I guess this trip is not about seeing what’s under me but more about what is around me, one step at a time. We will be back, if it is God’s will. It has been a beautiful day and I had so much fun sharing it with Fred!
